Is your building compliant?

Emergency escape lighting is important, and as a principal duty holder, you have a duty of care to ensure that In the event of a fire or power failure, all occupants are able to exit the building in a safe manner.

The system should be designed and installed to the required British standard BS 5266-1:2016, by competent engineers to ensure the system complies with the relevant legislative regulations.

What are the common non-compliances?

A site risk assessment should be carried out to determine any risks or hazards. Evacuation routes need to be identified so that emergency lighting can be installed in the correct areas.

Every emergency lighting installation needs to be provided with a log book and should contain sufficient information about the system installed. Details such as fitting type, location and any testing or repairs should be present.

Your emergency lighting system should be tested regularly to ensure correct operation should you need it. A functional test should be carried out on every light every month and tested annually for the full duration (generally 3 hours)

All emergency lights need to operate correctly should the building need to be evacuated in an emergency. The lights should be regularly tested and any remedial repairs carried out should they fail the test.

Types of emergency lighting systems we can help with

With many years experience in the various systems, our specialist emergency lighting division are able to provide a full end-to-end emergency lighting service.

Self Contained

Self contained emergency lights contain their own batteries and are not part of a central battery system. They can be included as part of the normal lighting or be a separate light fitting designed specifically for emergency lighting

Static Inverter Systems

Static inverter systems are designed to provide power to luminaires, exit signage and other life safety devices in the event of a power failure. They are highly efficient and can be used with normal mains voltage fittings which means they can achieve higher light levels

Central Battery Systems

Central battery systems automatically provide an alternative power supply in the event of AC supply failure. They come in 50V and 110V variations and luminaires need to be specially adapted to be able to work with the voltages

Self testing and monitoring systems

Self testing and monitoring systems are able to carry out automatic testing of the emergency lighting. They can provide information of the individual fittings, such as whether the battery, lamp and inverter are in good working order
